This
is the highly desirable American Flyer 23785 or 785 Operating Coal
Loader. It
comes complete with the controller, coal
tray, AF #23 bag of coal and the original roof. It
also has a copy of the instruction sheet. This was one of the most expensive
accessories and
thus is
somewhat rare. It looks pretty
much used very little.  We didn’t even have to clean it, it looked so nice. We
did test it though and it works very well. It does have a few of the
usual coal rub marks mostly in the back, but otherwise it looks close
to new. This one has the rare red painted roof which looks close to perfect. The paint
and patina are
exceptionally nice and it looks like it was painted yesterday, not 60
plus years ago. All of the metal parts are very bright and shiny and
look new. One of the nicer we have seen.   The coal tray is one of the cleaner ones that we have seen and is the uncommon gray one.  .  This one was kept in
California since it was sold in the late
1950s and is thus without rust or the usual corrosion. See photos to
confirm condition. A nice and new addition to
any collection.
